Gallery 5004's June 2025 show features over 40 Minnesota artists that are included in the new Afton Press book titled … An American Outpost: The Minnesota Art Scene, 1840-1989 by Katherine H. Goertz.
This book is a great overview of the Minnesota art scene from around the mid -nineteenth century to the late twentieth. It’s a historical view of an evolving Minnesota community of artists, exhibitions, and artworks. The term “art scene” in this context refers to a framework around which art is produced and seen, the localized stage on which the mechanisms of art unwind, and the system that creates and promotes artists and their art. An art scene can be an ungainly and amorphous creature, perpetually creating and dismantling itself. Sound intriguing? If so, please come and view both the book and the artwork.
Along with the book, works by the following prominent Minnesota artists will be available for purchase:
Albinson, Beauchamp, Beck, Beyer, Bobleter, Booth, Bradley, Dehn, E. Erickson, Fenelle, Fossum, Fournier, Granlund, Greenman, Haines, Haley, Hapke, Haupers, Hauser, Jemne, Kilbride, Koehler, Kramer, Larkin, Le Sueur, Loran, Lynch, Mairs, McNear, Nash, Potvin, Quick, Rollins, Rowan, Rudquist, Running, Saltzman, Socha, Sussman, Swanson, Wedin, Wiener, Wolfe, and more.
