Storm Surge

Storm Surge

Storm Surge by Megan Vossler is about the literal and metaphorical power of water; specifically, ocean swells, and waves

Vossler will explore the power and resilience of both nature and ourselves in this large scale multi panel watercolor.

Drawing has always been Megan Vossler’s primary practice, especially large-scale graphite drawings on paper that can envelop one’s field of vision, spanning ten feet wide at times. Her work has always focused on meticulous details and larger scales to allow for the many small areas of detail for storytelling. Vossler is interested in the metaphorical and narrative possibilities of figurative landscape representation. Her work pursues an open-ended narrative, giving living personifications to the trees, cliffs, oceans and rivers that can simultaneously act independently while also reacting to the populations that pass through them.

Megan Vossler received her BA from Brown University, and her MFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her artwork has been exhibited at museums and galleries around the country, including the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and the de Young Museum in San Francisco. Megan has been a recipient of several prestigious awards, including a Jerome Foundation Fellowship for Emerging Artists, a McKnight Artists Fellowship, and multiple grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Minnesota State Arts Board. In 2018, she was a visual artist in residence at Yaddo, in Saratoga Springs, NY. Megan teaches drawing at Macalester College in Saint Paul.

Storm Surge is showing at SooVAC simultaneously with Full Spectrum and New Age Nostalgia with receptions for all three shows April 25th 6PM-9PM (postponed from April 4th)
