Paintings by Chris Heidman and Lauren Krukowski

Sometimes we need a quiet space, a moment to reflect on the contours of our existence in the form of color and light. Full Spectrum is a combination of paintings by Chris Heidman and Lauren Krukowski that reflect on that space. What do you see when the everyday is only seen as color and shape, a candy wrapper or a sunset? Krukowski believes that if you look deeper you become absorbed by the essence of visual comfort, everything has beauty sometimes it's only altered by how you can capture that; “I enjoy color mixing and often discover colors through research and play while mixing paint. I also take photographs to collect colors I see day-to-day, the vibrant lavender I have been using lately is a tint of the eastern sky in Brooklyn during sunset. Other colors come from fabrics or the way light hits a particular landscape or building. For Heidman, “Finding brilliance in the mundane and the awful is the new human condition. It’s essentially a form of recycling.”

Chris Heidman is a painter and music producer who currently resides in Minneapolis. Chris grew up in the plains of Iowa, got his BFA from Colorado State and his MFA at University of Minnesota in 1993 in painting. Upon completing his master’s, his music project, “Sukpatch”, was discovered by the legendary John Peel, and was signed by the Beastie Boys to their Capital Records imprint, “Grand Royal”. Sukpatch was an extension of his art, layered, pioneering and experimental. It created a balance between his visual and audio sensibilities. After a decade run working with Hip Hop A-listers, he released records on Sub Pop, Moshi Moshi, Sony, Mo Wax and Grand Royal. He also is the executive producer for HiFi Project, producing music for advertising with artists such as Diplo, Lizzo, Ciara, DJ Snake, Mark Ronson, Hot Chip and Bruno Mars.

Lauren Krukowski lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Her work has been recently included in group exhibitions at the International Print Center, New York and Trestle Gallery. In 2016 she was awarded a Jerome Foundation Emerging Artist Fellowship Residency at Anderson Center at Tower View in Red Wing, Minnesota. This summer she will participate in the Guttenberg Arts Space and Time Artist Residency in Guttenberg, New Jersey. Krukowski holds a B.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
