In this exhibition I continue to explore two areas of painting - abstracts and landscapes.

My abstracts are studies of line, form, color, and gesture. They are a distant cousin to the architectural world of design I was part of for many years. The object is to give the viewer a respite from the pace and overload of our everyday world, a non-representative place of quiet and meditation.

The scrolls and landscapes shown are visual stories of different environments, ideas, history, and people’s lives. Many times they’re tied to my life and travels but not always. I often reference history and ideas tied to the landscape painted to give the viewer a fuller experience.

Artist Bio:
I’m part of a family that moves around a lot. Minnesota is my seventh state and by far the longest lived in. I spent 20 years involved in architecture in construction, education, working for firms, and as part of An Arch (a co-op design studio).I began showing my paintings and photographs in the mid-80’s shortly after getting my Bach. of Architecture at the “U”.In the mid-90’s I switched to pursuing my art full-time and went back to school at MCAD, earning an MFA in 1998. I became a member of Minnesota’s oldest artist cooperative, Rosalux, in 2005. I continue to exhibit my work there and in other venues as well. Like many full-time artists I’ve worked other jobs over the years to make ends meet…my particular forte is driving.
