North Hennepin Community College (NHCC) is proud to showcase hand-crafted art quilts from recent work by Jane Bassuk.
In the selection of intricately hand-embroidered and beaded art quilts that hang on the wall, Bassuk used fabric, beads and embroidery thread to create surreal landscapes that use organic shapes derived from the flora and fauna of the natural world. She used a variety of textures, such as brickwork patterns, to develop the surface and used color to create different light effects.
Bassuk began her studies at the Art Students' League, New York, where she grew up. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. In 2022, she retired from North Hennepin Community College after teaching for 23 years.
You can find Bassuk’s artwork at the Walker Art Center, the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis St. Paul Companies and First Northwestern Bank of St. Paul.
