New Exhibitions at Praxis
An opening night reception from 6–8 PM on Saturday, May 23, 2026, celebrates the debut of three new exhibitions at Praxis Gallery & Photographic Arts Center in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis.
This event is free and open to the public. Guests are invited to mingle with artists and fellow photography enthusiasts while exploring three galleries of contemporary and historical lens-based art and enjoying complimentary refreshments.
Gallery 1: THE PORTRAIT
A portrait begins with attention. It is an act of looking — and of being looked at. The Portrait explores the tension between appearance and interior life, inviting work that ranges from documentary approaches to constructed and conceptual interpretations. Through presence, gesture, setting, and expression, the exhibition examines how identity is shaped, revealed, and transformed within the photographic frame.
Curated by Elizabeth Flinsch, Editor of SHOTS Magazine.
Gallery 2: ANIMAL LIFE
Animal Life invites photographic work that honors the complexity and individuality of animals. From companion animals and farm creatures to insects, birds, sea life, and wildlife in their natural habitats, the exhibition welcomes diverse approaches that emphasize empathy, coexistence, and presence. The show highlights lens-based practices that encourage viewers to see the world through eyes other than their own.
Curated by Praxis Directors.
Gallery 3: PAULINE KRUGER HAMILTON: THE END OF AN ERA
This exhibition presents the rediscovered work of a Minneapolis portrait painter who left her studio to begin a second career in Vienna, where she became one of the most sought-after photographers in Europe before her early death in 1918.
Bringing together a selection of her photographs, the exhibition offers a renewed view of her work and situates it within a broader historical context.
Gallery Hours:
Saturdays Noon–5 PM and by appointment during exhibition dates.
