Nature Narratives
Groveland Gallery announces a gathering of artists and artist works which honor nature and earth in landscape, design, and thoughtful representation. Earth protectors all.
NATURE NARRATIVES – Group Exhibition showcases 70 works by 24 Artists including artist Dan Mackerman who preserves moments in nature through “Easterly Wind” 12x16” oil on panel and “Superior Boathouse” 30x40” with sweeping intense Northern Minnesota richness, color, and calming brush.
With a strong Nature Narrative encompassing preservation and earth, several Herman “Hank” Rowan paintings from the sixties feature ash in paint texture in “Silent Zaragoza” 72x50” oil on canvas 1962 and “Raga Beach” 73x73” oil on Canvas 1967. Herman “Hank” Rowan was a Groveland Gallery Founder who 53 years ago was a favorite University of Minnesota professor and taught many of the Groveland Gallery family of artists over the years.
Artist Brock Larson of Duluth, Minnesota pays tribute to nature with lush oil paintings such as “Blue & Gold” oil on panel 43.5x62.5” in distressed gold hand crafted frame, “July Skies” oil on panel 12x14.5” and several other extraordinary rich plein air paintings. Brock took first place in Plein air Grand Marais in 2023 and 2024 and was chosen to be juror for the 2025 competition.
Another deeply moving NATURE NARRATIVES: Group Exhibition piece is shared by St. Paul artist Joshua Cunningham “Tangled up in Spring” oil on linen 35.5x45.5” a plein air painting created in Philadelphia at Crumb Creek. Amidst a cold rain he painted while both saturated and focused. He mentions the sprinkle of light where the water comes around the bend, where a spectacularly lit tree stands strong and reliable, reminding him of a dear friend. He spent two afternoons painting to catch this perfect light.
