Human x Machine includes painting, photography, sculpture, installation and digital works that explore how artificial intelligence is influencing contemporary art-making. Some works embrace AI as a co-creator, some use it as a tool in their process, while others reject it outright. The exhibition invites visitors to consider questions about creativity, originality, and the role of technology in the future of art.

To deepen the conversation, The Phipps will host a panel discussion on Thursday, September 18, 2025, where exhibiting artists will share their perspectives on the influence of artificial intelligence on artistic practice. The panel will feature Staci Ludwig, Mat Ollig, Kurt Paulsen, and Sam Van Vo, and will be moderated by Nicole M. Watson, director of the Catherine G. Murphy Gallery at St. Catherine University in St. Paul.

“Human x Machine is more than an exhibition—it’s a chance to consider the impact of artificial intelligence on our culture,” said Lee Ann Pomplas, Arts Engagement Director. “This panel gives our community an opportunity to hear directly from artists about how they navigate, resist, or collaborate with AI in their work.”

Both the exhibition and panel discussion are free and open to the public. RSVP for panel discussion here: https://thephipps.ludus.com/200494840
