En Plein Air MN + MN State Fair Reject Show

Douglas Flanders & Associates is proud to announce the opening of MN State Fair Rejects + En Plein Air MN, an exhibition showcasing the talent, humor, and tenacity of twelve celebrated Minnesota artistsvwho work directly from life and landscape. The show opens with a public reception on Saturday, August 9, from 4 to 7 PM at Douglas Flanders & Associates, 5025 France Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55410.

This lively exhibition brings together two intertwined themes: the resilience of artists whose works didn’t make the cut for the Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Competition and the undeniable power of en plein air painting, a tradition that captures fleeting light, shifting skies and the raw immediacy of the outdoors.

Whether rejected or revered, these artists share a commitment to painting from life and embracing the unpredictable beauty of the real world. From cityscapes to rural fields, sunrise to twilight, this show honors the process as much as the product — and celebrates the independent spirit of Minnesota’s painterly tradition.
