Comic Making Workshop with Roshan Ganu

Comic Making Workshop with Roshan Ganu

Storyteller and interdisciplinary artist Roshan Ganu presents a free online workshop co-organized via SooVAC.

A Live Workshop by Roshan Ganu via Zoom...This LIVE broadcast will happen Wednesday April 8th at 7PM central time. Follow the Zoom Instructions below to join the workshop. Roshan Ganu is a storyteller and interdisciplinary artist who chooses comics, humor and sensual profiles to communicate everyday experiences. She is interested in questions like: “How do we build senses of home around us?”  “In foreign spaces, what exactly do we do to appropriate our new habitat?” Her recent show at the SooVAC juxtaposed paper maché miniatures with familiar smells and sounds that represented lived places and memories. Through this, she encourages viewers to make placial connections of their own. She is an MFA candidate at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (expected 2020) and has a second Masters in French Linguistics and Translation. Her MA research investigated "dark" themed children's books for pre-adolescent children as a way of understanding French contemporary society.

How to Prepare for the Workshop

Prior Knowledge: No prior knowledge of comics or accordion fold needed

Description: What a time to be alive! If your laundry is not done, you feel tired and annoyed at the world, your life has hit a peak of uncertainty, you are way past your threshold for any "news", your kids/pets/partners have lost their minds, don't worry. Unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures, we are going to make a comic. Unlock your senses of humour (Yes you have one, I promise) and pour your hearts, brains, bodies, routines, experiences out into a 4 panel comic strip that addresses this exceptional circumstance. Of course, you can make more than one strip!

Materials: 11x17 sheet of paper. If you don't have that, any sheet of paper larger than 8.5 x 11 is fine. We are going to make an accordion fold so each panel needs to be large enough  for you to draw. Also, bring pens, colours, paper for collage etc. The comic style is left up to you.
