Artist Statement

Jane Wunrow’s art is grounded in pen and ink, moments of collage, and layers of gouache. Her aesthetic and conceptual approach is largely influenced by the fragmentary nature of dreams she has received and the interconnectedness of visions, neurology, and migraine auras. 

In 2016 Jane’s seven-year-old daughter underwent emergency surgery to remove a near-fatal cranial infection. During the three weeks recovering at the hospital, Jane discovered that art and craft making became an instrumental part in the emotional and psychological healing process for her daughter, as well as herself. Art was not only a means to keep their minds off the pain, but also allowed them to express their trauma through creating new life.

Artist Biography

Jane Wunrow received her BFA in Drawing and Painting from the College of Visual Arts, St. Paul, MN. Shortly after graduating she gave birth to her first daughter and decided to take a hiatus from focused art making for the next six years, so she could focus on raising her three daughters. In 2013 Jane returned to her art with a fresh perspective on life and began creating and exhibiting her work. Jane is a 2017 recipient of an Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.
