X: a decade of HAIR+NAILS

“X: a decade of HAIR+NAILS” is in no way an exhaustive description of the 10 years of HAIR+NAILS gallery. It is a group show of works by 25 of the 148 artists that have exhibited with the gallery since the first show opened in September 2016. True to the spirit of their decade of curation, HAIR+NAILS founders/directors Kristin Van Loon & Ryan Fontaine selected artworks to live together for this show that is abundant in terms of form, texture, medium, perspective with massive trust in artists to self-define and shape the world at this moment.

The unlikely/inevitable story of how an experimental choreographer and a punk musician came to open a contemporary art gallery has been well chronicled (*see links below). Since opening the storefront gallery next door to their home, Van Loon and Fontaine have presented nearly 100 shows in Minneapolis, Chicago, Brooklyn, Miami, Los Angeles, NYC, Houston, Rochester MN. In 2024, they opened a second location (celebrating two years strong) in Chinatown, NYC. “X: a decade of HAIR+NAILS” is a celebration of past, present, and future as the gallery launches their 11th (Minneapolis) and 3rd (NYC) seasons of shows.
