When Proust Catches the Glare

When Proust Catches the Glare

An hour long program of 10 recent short films

Named after Raqs Media Collective’s eponymous film, this hour-long program of 10 recent short films by some of the most important artists working with moving images today includes work by Carl Elsaesser, Kevin Jerome Everson, Christopher Harris, Colectivo Los Igrávidos, Abinadi Meza, Raqs Media Collective, Cauleen Smith & Courtney Stephens.

Related to our current exhibition, In Search of Lost Time, the program will feature recent work that speaks to the sense that the COVID-19 pandemic has destabilized our collective sense of time, leaving us stranded in a present steeped in temporal paradox and uncertainty. Radical, intimate and vital works of art, these films look back, reflect and share varied experiences of lockdown, isolation and pandemic time.

“As the earth turns to spin slightly faster than before in 2021, and as the heavens break ranks, involuntary memories return to the beckoning of the lime-tar-fish-jasmine-gasoline-brine smell of a new time. This smell of a new time needs new words, and an old hand, to write it all down.” – Raqs Media Collective on When Proust Catches the Glare
