Understory | Stephanie Hunder

Silverwood Park proudly presents Understory, featuring work by Stephanie Hunder.

Inspired by memories of growing up in Minnesota’s woodlands and prairies, Hunder’s work often begins with forms and textures drawn from the landscape, via printmaking and photography. These documents are layered with conceptual diagrams, a study of our relationship to the natural world. In this exhibition, delicate shapes and patterns from the forest understory are recorded and combined with scientific and mathematical constructs used to understand growth, complexity, and the use of space.

Stephanie Hunder is a Minnesota artist educator working in printmaking and mixed media. She received her BFA and MA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and her MFA from Arizona State University. Her current work addresses insight and comprehension through natural and scientific iconography, combining photographic and digital techniques with traditional printmaking processes. Creating content through process is an area of special interest for Hunder. The significance of exploring, researching, and creating as central to learning is a focus in her teaching.

Recent activities include solo exhibitions at the Gordon Parks Gallery of Metro State University and Artistry, Bloomington Art Center. Recent group exhibitions include Printmaking: A Social Practice at UW Madison, and Optical Impermanence at the IMPACT conference in Bristol, UK.

Presented concurrently with Summer Camp Show.

The gallery is open daily to the public from 9 am - 8 pm through Labor Day and 9 am - 5 pm after Labor Day.
