The exhibition "To be Minnesotane: Ser y Estar" explores the layered meanings of the Spanish verbs ser and estar. Ser speaks to origin, essence, and core identities, while estar reflects presence, circumstance, and the relationship to place.
Through these dual concepts, this community-driven group exhibition invites Minnesota-based Latine artists to reflect on what it means to belong—to carry cultural roots while continually adapting to changing social, political, and personal realities. For many Latine communities, identity is shaped not only by heritage, but also by experiences of migration, family, resilience, mutual support, and the everyday act of building home. At a time when communities face uncertainty, division, and rapid change, this exhibition creates space for artists to explore how culture sustains us, how communities respond to challenges, and how hope is nurtured across generations.
Featured artists include Charlie Andrés, Graciela DeAnda, Christian Garcia Garcia, Carlota Gay, M.D., Adriana Gordillo, Giselle Hernandez de Ellie, Ana Keller-Flores, JC Landi, Roberto Lopez Rios, Patricia Mendez, Roxy P., Juan Diego Perez la Cruz, Victor Ramiro Yepez Garcia, Kenneth Antonio Rivera, Irving Vasquez, and Mikhamik. The exhibition is guest curated by Lucino Sosa Montaño, an independent curator and multidisciplinary artist whose practice examines migration, memory, labor, and cultural belonging.
