The Material Out of Which Countries Are Made

Artistry presents a solo exhibition of fine photography by Ellie Kingsbury in the Atrium Gallery at Bloomington Center for the Arts

Artistry is pleased to announce The Material Out of Which Countries Are Made, an art exhibition featuring the work of Minneapolis artist, Ellie Kingsbury. The exhibition will take place in the Atrium Gallery and runs July 29 – September 12, 2021. A “Meet the Artist” date is scheduled for Friday, August 13 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Photographer, Ellie Kingsbury asks us to take another look at the prairies of the Midwest which she says are often dismissed as featureless. Instead, she argues prairies are teaming with detail like native grasses and the ever-changing sky. It is here, she says, that nature provides energy.

“Land and sky exalt the vastness of space; they lean together to create a shared horizon.”

Taking inspiration from fellow Nebraska native and writer, Willa Cather, Kingsbury strives to reveal the importance of the prairie as “an everything”. In her atmospheric photographs Kingsbury provides multiple images in tandem to focus on both the micro and the macro aspects of this complicated and diverse ecosystem.
