The Human Schematic of a Black Man

The Human Schematic of a Black Man

Visually exploring the imprint of single black motherhood

Seeking to explore the black male and his relationship with the black woman, more specifically the single black mother, artist Jordan Allen has created a dazzling series of self-reflective works.

Diving beneath the skin; analyzing his demons, dreams and the women he is an imprint of and those he imprints, Jordan isInvestigating how the conscious and subconscious mind work in tandem to create the individual from this social circumstance. Oscillating between masculinity and femininity, simple figures and speculative marks, vibrancy and dark space, the New York based artist pours his ambitions and ambiguities neatly on to the canvas surface.

Obsidian Arts is excited about this exhibition because it tackles a subject matter under-explored in a deliberative manner in the visual arts of black male artists.
