The Ephemeral is Real - A Response to the Virtualization of Nature

The Ephemeral is Real - A Response to the Virtualization of Nature

Works by John Beaver

By using digital scans from B&W paper negatives printed without the use of a developer or fixer, photographer John Beaver is able to embrace the ephemeral. These fleeting moments and happy accidents happen because a non-developing accelerator is applied to temporarily increase their sensitivity to light. Combine this with long exposures and fast lenses or exposed contact with objects and old color prints - The process is an odd combination of physicality and non-permanence.  The results of this self-identified, Ephemeral Process Photography are ghostly scenes that recall long ago memories or broken bits of an old dream.
