The Art of Alex Yang: Weaving the Hmong Legacy

Xia Gallery presents The Art of Alex Yang: Weaving the Hmong Legacy.

The Art of Alex Yang: Weaving the Hmong Legacy offers a glimpse into the creative process of young artist Alex Yang as he explores themes such as what it means to be Hmong-American, visualizing the diaspora, and reconnecting with Hmong heritage through visual art.

Just as ancestral wisdom and stories were woven into the Hmong folk arts of paj ntaub flower cloth, song poetry, and oral storytelling, this collection of illustrations and installations offers a contemporary perspective on Hmong history, culture, and identity, bridging the past, present, and future.

From honoring the ancestral styles of traditional Hmong clothing to portraying modern Hmong-American narratives, this exhibit invites all to celebrate the resilience and enduring story of the Hmong people.
