Random-Access | Candice Davis

In this new installation, Candice Davis interrogates the transgenerational experiences of the technological present. Through witnessing her grandmother's struggle with dementia, she explores the allowances and limitations of digital devices as they relate to prosthetic memory. Sourcing from personal, collective, and institutional archives, Davis' work reintroduces the historic into the present. By mimicking the fluidity of oral histories prevalent in Black American culture, she highlights their capacity to become integrated into personal memory rather than remaining distant and stagnant.
