Japanese Woodblock Prints from the St. Catherine University Archives & Special Collections

In Nostalgic Femininity, curator Christina Spiker, Ph.D., draws upon items in the University’s Archives & Special Collections to explore the relationship between nostalgia and gender in Japanese woodblock prints of the late nineteenth century. The show features various prints by Meiji-period artist Yōshū Chikanobu alongside select examples by Miyagawa Shuntei, Utagawa Kunisada I, Mizuno Toshikata, and Toyohara Kunichika. Spiker, who is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at St. Catherine University, specializes in modern Japanese art and visual culture.

This show and opening reception are concurrent with Curious: Senior Juried Exhibition and A Body of Work: A Retrospective Look at Patricia Olson's Art.
