Nicole Houff “She’s Fantastic and Made of Plastic”

Nicole Houff is a Minneapolis-based photographer with a “mild obsession with Barbie.” She creates fun and sometimes satirical photographs that are intended to put a smile on your face.

“Barbie isn’t just a doll; she is a cultural icon. I create scenes with the dolls that have a sense of whimsy mixed with a little sarcasm. Are my photos just fun, social commentaries, or a mix of both? I let the viewer decide. Just like the doll herself, the photos can mean different things to different people.”
