New Traditions is a group art exhibition and music showcase that celebrates how artists either break from, or honor traditions to further their creative evolution.
New Traditions seeks to highlight the accomplishments of those who are not typically recognized, especially at the intersection of skateboarding and art; The very young and the elderly; Disabled and able bodied folks; Women, queers and feminists, and also the men who support, encourage, and empower, and whose accomplishments have helped to pave the way for non traditional skaters in the Twin Cities.
New Traditions will feature live musical performances by DJ Girl Blunt, and the all female rock and roll group, Crush Scene, as well as a free, open skate session for those who wish to participate.
Coinciding with this event, Familia Skateboard Shop will be releasing the 7th edition of their True Heads series, honoring local skaters who have kicked down doors to continue shaping the future of women in skateboarding in the Twin Cities.
New Traditions exhibition will be on display from October 5–31, with the opening reception and music showcase happening Saturday, October 5 from 4-8pm at Familia Skateboard Shop. Pizza and beverages will be provided.
This is a free community event and has been generously sponsored by ASICS, Volcom, New Belgium Brewing Company, Elysian Construction and Two Betty’s Cleaning.
