Nature Abstracted | Jodi Reeb
Featuring mixed-media paintings by Jodi Reeb consisting of encaustic, oil paint and photo collage of images taken at Nerstrand and Sakatah State Parks.
"Combining the mediums of painting and photography have me “connect with place” and sense the landscape with many views using the translucency of waxy layers." The photos were taken on film as a double-exposure with superimposed images in one frame.
The method of Encaustic painting involves applying hot molten beeswax colored with pigment to a painting surface, which is then “fused” (melted) with a torch or heat gun. This creates a variety of surfaces with textured and transparent layers. The images are printed on tissue paper and embedded within layers of wax paint to create transparent depth.
Reeb is a fiscal year 2026 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
