Moon Spiral Heart Attack

Moon Spiral Heart Attack

A group exhibition embracing punk aesthetics and queer poetics, curated by Lee Noble and Emma Beatrez, presented by Night Club.

Moon Spiral Heart Attack is presented by and at Night Club Gallery.

Moon Spiral Heart Attack transgresses the burden of this moment through intricate, runic works that celebrate fate, serendipity, and defiance. Embracing punk aesthetics and queer poetics, the show reveals tender forms and mythic creatures. Presented by Night Club, the curatorial project of Lee Noble and Emma Beatrez, this group exhibition features eleven emerging artists from the United States, Canada, France, and Argentina working in painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. Bound together by Dadaist absurdity, homespun materiality, and talismanic proclamations, Moon Spiral Heart Attack elevates a DIY ethos steeped in the strange and uncomfortable. Santiago Licata’s lycanthropic apparitions, Monica Berger’s unsettling, impastoed portraits, and Bill Walker’s hyperbolic figures, inhabit long, hedonistic nights while Eric Preston Alexander’s roughhewn ceramic vessels and Chloe Seibert’s bejeweled canine seem destined to adorn the sarcophagi of our culture’s underground queens. SaraNoa Mark’s clay tablets and Ryan Gerard Nelson’s silkscreened canvases are inscribed with architectural gestures, marked by time as if excavated from ancient relics. The ominous imagery of Narcan, tumbling dice, and spectral models in Christian Michael Filardo’s flags, Lisa Signorini’s sardonic video journals, and Alec Marchant’s overexposed photographs speak to an existence that feels predicated on little more than a gamble. And by inscribing tautly stretched latex with bitumen and chains, Nancy Julia Hicks offers a baleful reminder of our hydrocarbon folly. Through its forceful manipulation of materiality and uncompromising certainty, Moon Spiral Heart Attack beckons a civilization reimagined, a place where false monuments to polish, insincerity, and capital have fallen and rebuilding is done slowly, mutually, and by hand.
