Lawrence Gipe: New Works from the Locomotive Series

Douglas Flanders & Associates is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition featuring the recent work of internationally known artist Lawrence Gipe.

Lawrence Gipe (b. 1954), a contemporary American artist known for his thought-provoking and visually striking paintings, has emerged as a prominent figure in the world of art. His works exhibit a deep connection to history, culture, and the human experience. Through his distinctive style and meticulous attention to detail, Gipe invites viewers to engage in a journey of exploration and contemplation. Gipe's art is characterized by a meticulous and highly detailed style that blurs the lines between painting and photography.

He is best known for his large-scale, hyperrealistic paintings, which often depict scenes from the mid-20th century. Gipe's attention to detail is astonishing, and his ability to capture the textures, lighting, and atmosphere of his subjects is nothing short of remarkable. His works are a testament to his dedication to his craft and his unwavering commitment to achieving technical excellence.

One of the defining features of Gipe's work is his use of found photographs as source material. He scours thrift shops, flea markets, and vintage stores in search of old photographs, postcards, and other ephemera. These artifacts serve as a starting point for his paintings, which are transformed through his meticulous process. Gipe's reinterpretation of these found images imbues them with new meaning and significance, bridging the gap between past and present.

Lawrence Gipe's contributions to the art world have not gone unnoticed. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, earning critical acclaim and a dedicated following of art enthusiasts. Gipe's ability to merge the past with the present through his hyperrealistic paintings has established him as a unique voice in contemporary art.

He has exhibited internationally, including solo museum exhibitions at the Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach, CA; Amerika-Haus, Berlin; Worcester Art Museum, Worcester, MA; Kunstverein Düsseldorf; and The Chrysler Museum, Norfolk, VA. His work is in numerous public collections, including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, San Jose Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Yale University Library, Zimmerli Archive-Rutgers University, Boise Art Museum, Cincinnati Art Museum, and the Norton Museum of Art, Palm Beach.
