In Memory of John Booth
In legacy of the late John Booth, join us in celebration of his artistic mind and heart. In Memory of John Booth is a collection of paintings from Booth’s prolific career as a visual artist in Minneapolis, MN. Join us from Friday, May 22 through Sunday, May 24 for a weekend-long party in remembrance of John’s whimsical life and artwork.
In Memory of John Booth is a retrospective exhibition of acrylic airbrush paintings and oil paintings which span John’s over 40 year career as a visual artist. His art reflected his personality: fun, goofy, and imaginative. John’s paintings utilize bright, punchy colors and light hearted subject matter, often portraying the world with brilliant, colorful enthusiasm.
Minneapolis-based artist John Booth created bold, colorful airbrush acrylic and oil paintings with both the quirky familiarity of the everyday and dream-like whimsy through pop art inspired influence. John went to Buffalo High School in Buffalo, Mn., and attended the University of Minnesota Twin Cities for Engineering where he later switched to the Art Department. He taught himself how to create often large-scale acrylic airbrush painting, a very physically demanding way of making art. John made his livelihood as an artist traveling around the US for art shows where he shared his passion for creating alongside his partner, Holly Sue Foss.
In 2018, John experienced health complications which sadly caused him to lose both of his legs below the knee. In the face of adversity, John continued to create art. He switched from airbrush to oil paint as his new primary medium, as airbrushing was too physically demanding. Through all of these hardships, John continued to create art and live a life full of joy, positivity, and a zeal for living every day with a smile and perpetual sense of humor. John passed away in June 2024 leaving behind an inspiring message of resilience, optimism, and wonder through his life dedicated to creating art and always having fun along the way.
Artist Statement:
Creating art is really just problem solving. I find it fun and challenging to start with an idea and then to figure out how to visually present it. This is when you use the visual tools (line, shape, color, and composition) to solve and create the image. I love my job, I just never run out of ideas.
