Impermanence is a show featuring Jennifer Zoss’ paintings and Cara O’Connell’s drawings centered on the theme of growth and the nature of change in the environment and ourselves.
About the Artists
Jennifer Zoss
Jennifer’s body of work explores the ever-changing environments of Northeast Minneapolis, where she has lived and worked for twenty years. Zoss’ paintings are inspired by the juxtaposition of greenspaces and industrial buildings; Northeast’s diversity of residents; and how the crazy Minnesota weather changes the look and feel of this place. Her work’s surfaces are extremely layered and textural, reflecting a process of applying paint and scraping it away or sanding it off, then repeating. Jennifer uses text, but like graffiti, it’s usually unreadable. Despite the changes made, there is always evidence of each mark-making phase.
Jennifer graduated from The College of Visual Arts in 2001 with a BFA in Fine Art. She currently has studio #442 in the Northrup King Building.
Cara O’Connell
Cara Jo O’Connell’s current body of work is about the organic, earthy, undervalued and underrepresented importance of aging. Cara’s intention is to convey storied landscapes and to elevate the stunning process of aging and the privilege of this shared human experience. To accomplish this she uses pencil, charcoal, oil paint and wood stain on wood panel and archival paper. Her imagery is based on women whom she has met while working on this series. Her work is based on photographs and conversations she gathers during the gifted time she is given with these individuals.
Cara graduated with a BFA from the College of Visual Arts in 2002. She currently has a studio (#203) in the Northrup King Building in NE Minneapolis, MN.
