HINDSIGHT | Ruthann Godollei

In the exhibition "HINDSIGHT," artist Ruthann Godollei utilizes the quintessential icon of consumer culture—the car—to examine the current state of society. Using parts sourced from auto junkyards, Godollei transforms rearview mirrors into windows that invite retrospection. Prefacing each work with the concept "in hindsight...", she employs a bleak sense of humor to explore themes ranging from climate change to civil liberties and basic human rights. The works suggest that looking back is a vital tool for self-reflection and a means to avoid repeating past failures.

The opening reception on Friday, September 18th, will feature a curated musical program in the Sculpture QUAD by Philippe Gallandat. The performance schedule includes Raycurt AKA Fiddla (6:00), Paris (6:45), Augie Babel (7:30), Brooklyn with Dave Dvorak (8:15), and a closing performance of "Bella Ciao" by Philippe Gallandat et. al. (8:55).

Ruthann Godollei is an artist working in multiple media whose artworks often incorporate political and social commentary through satiric text. Her work is represented in numerous international collections, including the KUMU National Art Museum in Estonia, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and the Polish National Museum of Art. A Professor of Art at Macalester College, she was a 2022-23 McKnight Visual Artist Fellow and a 2019 Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Printmaking. She is also the author of "Road Show, ArtCars and the Museum of the Streets."
