Faraway Home: Tibetans in Minnesota

Hennepin History Museum announces the opening of Faraway Home: Tibetans in Minnesota on Friday, July 7, 2023. The exhibit shares the story of the Tibetan community in Minnesota - the second largest in the United States.

Two events mark the opening of the exhibit:

Friday, July 7, 4 pm:  Traditional Tibetan Dance Performance

Members of the local Ü-Tsang Dance Group (shown above in photo courtesy of John Nguyen, Minnesota Public Radio) will perform with traditional costumes and instruments on the front lawn of the Museum.

Saturday, July 8, 10 am - 4 pm:   Mandala Creation

Tibetan Buddhist Monks of the Tashi Kyil Monastery will create a sand mandala, an artwork which is a tool for gaining wisdom and compassion via a meditatively constructed geometric composition that can inspire individuals on the path to enlightenment. The Tibetan Buddhist Monks of the Tashi Kyil Monastery live in exile from Tibet in India.
