Extraordinary Elsewhere

This exhibition features artworks by international artists whose interdisciplinary practices are distributed across a variety of media including and not limited to dance, soft sculpture, site-specific installation, animation, and participatory poetry. What is gained and what is left behind when moving across geographies? What is learned and what is shared? How can we access these exceptional spaces - liminal ones - where we can relate and connect with each other? The exhibition celebrates these acclaimed artists, addressing their extraordinary artistic journeys, their stories of resilience and adaptation, and their cultural contribution to the artistic landscape of Minnesota.

The artworks are accompanied by a short documentary directed by Pawan Sharma with interviews by Rituparna Rana, created uniquely for the exhibition. In the filmmaker’s words, the documentary “explores how movement, memory, and cultural histories shape artistic expression.” Captions and/or transcripts are available in the gallery.
