Ellie Kingsbury
Ellie Kingsbury has long studied cultural expectations of the body, largely through photographic images of “ordinary” people.  She has started a new chapter of this work by photographing burlesque performers.  Removed from the stage, set onto plain black backgrounds, and printed on large panels of silk, these bodies undulate, ripple, and transform, summoning thoughts of spirit over skin.  She furthers the effect by utilizing physical dimension as well as the dimension of time and space.

Jan Spencer de Gutiérrez
Jan's artmaking process combines careful planning, design, and spontaneity. As an artist rooted in abstract expressionism, her work references Mille Lacs Lake’s mystery, landforms and ever-changing weather. The absence of recognizable forms place emphasis on the emotive quality of the work, active brushwork echoes wind over water, and dynamic mark-making ignites intrigue and leads the viewer’s eye through the composition. Through energetic and expressive use of color and variety of styles, Jan’s work is complex and invites you into a world where the observed and imagined solidifies into creation itself.
