Juxtaposition Arts presents a solo exhibition by Philli Irvin
Drain-0 is part of a larger world—unfolding over time and across different mediums.
From the artist’s perspective, it’s a practice of making that reconnects the self to process, spirit, and growth—a return to creation as life-fuel.
At the same time, it’s a tale—one that touches on memory, experimentation, and the urgency of building, especially in a world that’s become increasingly virtual.
DRAIN-0: I AM AN ENGINEER is the first chapter in an ongoing experience. This one leans into the making—the trial and error, the frustration, the fun, the curiosity. The process of trying, failing, and trying again. It doesn’t offer easy answers, but it makes space for what’s learned in the attempt.
Philosx3’s work reflects a deep investment in the lives and futures of Black and Brown children, balancing depictions of play, labor, and creativity with themes of resilience and lineage. Inspired by his nieces and nephews—whose lil nugget heads (lol) often find their way into the characters he paints—his art celebrates the intelligence and resourcefulness of children navigating complex worlds, reframing mischief as acts of passion, curiosity, and innovation.
Irvin’s exhibition will commence a weekend of events at Juxtaposition Arts including HI COTTON NORF STAR: THE BLOCK PARTY- A Juneteenth Celebration of Black Celestial Knowledge, Community, and 115 Years of Great Migration
June 21, 2025 | 12 PM – 9 PM | Emerson & Broadway, Northside Minneapolis

Specializing in event production, immersive installations, 3D/visual art, and illustration, Philli views making as a sanctuary—a space to find balance and interpret the world. Currently, Philli draws on themes of recent history, remembrance, industry, and abstract expressionism. His work aims to create moments of joy and ease that counter the weight of pain and hardship.
