Deforming Publication: Paul Chan and Lucy Ives in Conversation, Moderated by Lara Mimosa Montes.
On the occasion of new publications by both Chan (Paul Chan: Breathers) and Ives (Life Is Everywhere: A Novel) and a survey of Chan's recent work at the Walker Art Center, the artists will hold a short reading and conversation moderated by poet and editor Lara Mimosa Montes. They will discuss experiments in publication, ways of undoing the book, and the productive malleability of genre, among other topics related to contemporary writing, the visual arts, and intersections thereof.
Paul Chan is an artist and publisher based in New York. His exhibition "Breathers" opens at the Walker Art Center on November 17, 2022. His latest books include Breathers (Walker Art Center, 2022) and Above All Waves: Wisdom From Tominaga Nakamoto, The Philosopher Rumored To Have Inspired Bitcoin (Badlands Unlimited, 2022).
Lucy Ives is a novelist and critic. Her work has appeared in Artforum, Harper’s, and Vogue, among other magazines. Her third novel, Life Is Everywhere, is newly out from Graywolf Press as of October 2022.
