Cinema and Civics

Come to Stevens Square park to connect w/ local officials, and enjoy live performances and films by local filmmakers.

Cinema & Civics is a longstanding SSCO tradition. Every summer, they come together as neighbors to enjoy movies, live music, and popcorn in the park. They also welcome speakers who have an impact on the community, such as: political candidates up for election in the fall, and organizations that address issues of public concern in our community and beyond.



Performers:

Afoutayi - Afoutayi Haitian Dance, Music and Arts is a performance company and nonprofit arts organization incorporated in the state of Minnesota and fiscally sponsored by Indigenous Roots in Saint Paul, MN.

Speakers:
zAyma Theater Project - Through captivating performances and creative collaboration workshops, zAmya builds understanding and connection between citizens who have experienced homelessness and those who have not.

Steeple People/Old School - Old School by Steeple People, a 501c3 nonprofit, serves the community by selling donated quality used clothing and household goods at affordable prices and donating profits to worthy charitable causes.

Family Tree Clinic - Family Tree Clinic’s mission is to cultivate a healthy community through comprehensive sexual health care and education. Family Tree is building a new trauma-informed, art-infused, community-powered clinic and education center at Franklin and Nicollet (here in Stevens Square) opening in the Fall of 2021!

Council Member Jamal Osman - Council Member Jamal Osman represents Ward 6, which is located in central Minneapolis.

“In which we enact some encounters between a spectrum of neighbors in a Minneapolis park, hear memories of childhood summer camp experiences from Mother Tahiti and our friend Ken Moore, get the headlines, and so much more.” Homeless Network Newz (HNN) highlights stories, experiences and the creative contributions of people who have experienced homelessness and the impact of Covid-19 on the homeless community.
