The Catherine G. Murphy Gallery is pleased to present two solo exhibitions by Minnesota artists Alexandra Beaumont and Marjorie Fedyszyn.
Alexandra Beaumont’s show, Boots on the Ground, considers the opposition of collective movement through social dancing and the increasing presence of federal law enforcement and military in U.S. cities. Collaged cloth banners pay homage to dancers who move together in protest and with community. The textured effect of the paint on sheer cloth echoes camouflage and tie-dye, intentionally blending the two meanings of “Boots on the Ground”—the title of a new, popular Black line dance and a militaristic phrase.
In NO WHERE, NOW HERE, Marjorie Fedyszyn navigates a profound journey of healing, transforming past trauma into present joy and new artistic expression. For over a decade, her installations processed deep-seated pain and grief from childhood—this exhibition marks a new beginning: the artist’s embrace of her significant shift toward self-discovery and release. Handmade paper and textile abstractions glow with fluorescent color, reflecting the lightness and hope she has recently discovered in her life.
The artists will be present at the opening reception on Saturday, January 17, 5–7pm.
All events are free and open to the public. For ASL interpretation or other accommodations, please contact ddtaropurua697@stkate.edu at least one week prior.
