Opening on Juneteenth — Friday, June 19 — Blacknificent Vol. 3 is a retrospective that earns the word. Over two decades, Ron Brown has built one of the most distinctive and culturally grounded bodies of work in the Twin Cities: Afrocentric in spirit, hip-hop in its DNA, and uncompromising in its insistence that Black identity is not a trend but a continuum. This exhibition brings that continuum into full, immersive view.

The show unfolds across three chapters:

  • In The Living Room — Where We Gather, hand-crafted furniture and sculptural installation transform the gallery into a sacred domestic space — chairs that hold history, tables that function as altars, objects that insist on the home as the original site of culture, resistance, and inheritance.
  • I Used 2 Love H.E.R. takes its title from the landmark Common track and offers a layered visual meditation on hip-hop — not merely as music, but as philosophy, coded language, and survival strategy. Graffiti-influenced canvases and wearable art press the question: have we honored this culture, or have we forgotten its origins?
  • The exhibition closes with Conversations with Wisdom — Communion with the Ancestors, where African tribal visual language, ancestral symbolism, and afrofuturistic imagery converge in work that is, in the fullest sense, spiritual. Patterns speak. Colors vibrate with intention. The ancestors are not distant — they are present.

That this retrospective opens on Juneteenth is not incidental. Brown's work has always been engaged with precisely what the day demands: a reckoning with history, a celebration of who we are, and an unflinching look at what we are building next. Experienced in that context, Blacknificent Vol. 3 becomes something more than an art exhibition — it becomes a form of observance.

About the Artist:
Ron Brown is a Twin-Cities–based multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, hand-crafted wood furniture, and wearable art. For twenty years, Brown has worked at the intersection of Afrocentric aesthetics and hip-hop culture, developing a visual language that is at once deeply rooted and genuinely original. His work has been shown throughout the Twin Cities, where he has long been recognized as a significant and singular voice in the regional arts community. Blacknificent Vol. 3 is his most comprehensive exhibition to date.
