Dan Callis in Conversation with Amanda Hamilton

Event Website

Dan Callis in Conversation with Amanda Hamilton: Thursday, October 29th at 5:30pm in the Lake Valentine Room, CLC Building, First Level. Reception with the artist in the Olson Gallery Following the talk.

Between Tide and Horizon is a curated collection of work by Los Angeles-based artist Dan Callis. His work is shaped by a love of material practices, the humorous and painful experience of being human, and what poet Christian Wiman has called “accidental” theology. Each work archives a conversation between process and material, structure and concept. Grief and renewal mark and inform the collection, and perhaps, a sense of wonder and hope.

About the Artist:
Dan Callis (born Long Beach, CA) is a Southern California-based visual artist and arts educator specializing in interdisciplinary explorations. He earned an M.F.A. from Claremont Graduate University. Callis pursues a studio-based practice, working across painting, sculpture, and installation art. Alongside his individual studio practice, he has developed an extensive body of collaborative work with a diverse range of partnerships. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in Los Angeles, New York, Japan, Spain, and Morocco. He has been the recipient of numerous fellowships, most recently the Borgeson Artist-in-Residence, at Hope College, Michigan.
