Between Dog and Wolf | Gregory Graham

Between Dog and Wolf | Gregory Graham

Between Dog and Wolf, an exhibition of new paintings by Gregory Graham, opens Saturday, September 9 at Groveland Gallery.

Graham grew up in Watervliet, New York, and has been the recipient of numerous awards, including grants from the Jerome Foundation and the Minnesota State Arts Board. He lives and works in Saint Paul.

Graham is known for his intimate, postcard-sized paintings which depict everyday events and ordinary places. These paintings are snapshots of occurrences that rarely register in our consciousness. Of this new body of work, Graham says: “Between dog and wolf’ is an old French expression for dusk, that time between day and night when the dim light makes it difficult to distinguish between the known and the unknown; when a shepherd might confuse the dog guarding the herd for the wolf stalking it. For me, this phrase also suggests those crossover moments between wakefulness and sleep; neither awake nor asleep, yet somehow both, not certain what is real and what is unreal.”

The exhibition runs concurrently with Northern Light | Susan Horn. Both shows continue through October 14th, 2023.

Gallery Hours:

Tuesday – Saturday, 12 to 5 pm
