A Common Thread 2023

A Common Thread returns for its 23rd year, and showcases the breadth and talent of Textile Center’s innovative members.

The largest year of this exhibition yet, 166 artworks made by 167 artists cover the walls of Textile Center's gallery spaces in an exhibition that is as diverse in technique as it is prolific in scope. Submitted from among Textile Center’s nearly 1,000 members, myriad fiber art materials and textile techniques are showcased, including stitching, quilting, knitting, weaving, crochet, sewing, dyeing, felting, hand construction, polymer clay, basketry, beading, sculpture, and mixed media.

“This year’s exhibition has dramatically increased in scale, with dozens of entries from new members and an even greater variety of work for audiences to engage with. We are excited to provide a venue for many artists who are exhibiting work for the first time in their lives, alongside artists who have been engaged with Textile Center and producing work for decades. Putting together an installation of this scope in our gallery spaces means we get up close and personal with each art work. My appreciation and respect for our member-artists grows with each annual exhibit,” says Tracy Krumm, Textile Center’s Director for Artistic Advancement.

A virtual exhibition will accompany the show and will be on the Textile Center website in September, to provide an alternative format to the show for those who cannot make it to Textile Center.
