100% Natural | Atrium Gallery

Artistry proudly presents 100% Natural, a solo art exhibition by St. Louis Park artist Marty Harris in the Atrium Gallery

Artist and Illustrator, Marty Harris simply enjoys making pictures. One mark follows the next, and often the theme reveals itself during the process – leaving plenty of room for ideas to change and shift. Harris strives for images that break apart and come back together again and again. Ideally an image will strike differently upon each viewing and make its home where it hangs.

“I have grown to love the process I’ve evolved over the past couple years.” – Marty Harris

About the Artist:
Marty Harris is an artist and illustrator. During early days he tried a couple of colleges before settling on Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, where he earned a BFA in Painting. During his Tyler tenure he spent a summer on scholarship at Yale Summer School of Music and Art. He also spent a semester in a program called The Artists for Environment Foundation, a brilliant program located in a National Park adjacent to the Delaware Water Gap. The next stop was Indiana University where he earned his MFA as a painter and began his career as a commercial illustrator. The Macintosh hit the shelves in 1985. He graduated and got a job illustrating in 1986. Adobe Illustrator came out in 1987, and Marty has been living his work life in Illustrator ever since.

Years later, when the nest was empty Marty returned to fine art, keeping sketchbooks, digging into printmaking at Highpoint Center for Printmaking, and Open Edition at MCAD. He was drawn to the great outdoors, taking trips north to draw at locations along the Big Lake. He was an artist-in-residence at Grand Marais Artist Colony. He enjoys being part of communities of artists, including events such as the annual Great Minnesota Sketch Together at the State Fair, projects including moly_x: an international sketchbook exchange (Google it), and a variety of exhibitions, group and solo. More recently, he has been involved with Art for Water - Minnesota Water Stewards, a program of the Freshwater Society. Marty looks forward to the MCAD printshop opening back up.
