Yael Ben-Simon and Christopher Harrison

SooVAC concludes our summer season with two exhibitions by artists, Yael Ben-Simon and Christopher Harrison

Both exhibitions feature work that are explorations of how visual symbols have the power to alter our perceptions of reality, both in human histories and politics.

Christopher E. Harrison’s A Monster Anthology is a collection of paintings, sculptures, and printed works that chart the evolution of an imagined species’ existence through abstract portraiture and landscapes.

Yael Ben-Simon’s new series of work, Out of My Book, was inspired initially by an annual week long social media event were libraries, archives and cultural institutions offer downloadable images from their collections rendered as coloring book pages.  Ben-Simon will recreate the spirit of this process by transferring images from the book Iconology to canvas in the style of coloring book pages, and then she reworks the images with mixed media materials.
