Women's Reality

A one-night art exhibition that explores the shifting realities of what it means to be a women in today's society

Join local artist, Laura Tiede, for Women's Reality an art exhibition that explores the shifting realities of what it means to be a women in today's society. This one night, pop-up exhibit seeks to explore women's experiences from earliest childhood through old age. Works include paintings, fabric sculptures, community created art and an onsite audience installation.

The idea for Women's Reality came to Tiede during a conversation with a group of women in a New Orleans art gallery in November 2017. The news of the day quickly led the women to talk about personal experiences of gender discrimination, sexual harassment and sexual assault.  Listening to these conversations, Tiede knew that she wanted to provide a platform for women's experiences to be seen, heard, contemplated, challenged and celebrated.

Also included in the exhibit is a women's public art collaboration titled, "Artifacts."  For this, women across the United States wrote about a time when they were treated differently simply due to their gender. These women then paired their narratives with an object that represents their experience. These artifacts—story and object—will be on display for public consideration.
