When the Stones Came to Town: Rock 'n' Roll Photos from the 1970s

A collection of historical photographs by Fred Case.

A collection of historical photographs by Fred Case who documented musical legends such as Chuck Berry, Steppenwolf, the Who, Elton John, Alice Cooper, Elvis Costello, Miles Davis, and the Rolling Stones. Case captured these stars from their performances to their backstage shenanigans at ‘70s Twin Cities venues such as The Depot (First Avenue), the Guthrie, the Labor Temple, Jay’s Longhorn, the Minneapolis Auditorium, and Parade Stadium. Through Case’s intimate and vivacious images, visitors will have an insight to the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle of several musical icons as well as Case’s fascinating career as a photographer in Minneapolis’ 1970s music scene.

This artist talk doubles as a release party for Fred Case’s new book co-written with Eric Dregni and published by the Minnesota Historical Society Press. Books will be available for purchase at Gallery 122 while supplies last. Prints of Case’s iconic works will also be available for purchase in various sizes. Custom framing for any art purchases during the show will be discounted through Hang It.
