The Thick Of It | Cory Favre

The Thick Of It | Cory Favre

Supercharged Printmakers hosts an exhibition of new work by Cory Favre giving a peek into motherhood

MOTHERHOOD… Sleeplessness. Overstimulation. Self doubt. Depression. Anxiety. Love. Fun. Play.

So many conflicting feelings come with motherhood. It’s a messy endevour, figuratively and literally. It can be hard to explain how you can go from feeling like you could die you love your child so much to wanting to rip your own hair out because you are so overwhelmed. All these feelings are valid and are explored through this new exhibition, The Thick of It by Cory Favre.

Cory uses bright colors and fun imagery to discuss these topics. Everything from pregnancy to postpartum depression to chest-pounding, gut dropping love you can have for another human. Humor and playfulness are important aspects of this work because multiple things can be true at the same time. The Thick of It is meant to be a space where mothers and caregivers can explore some of their own feelings and experiences and know that they are relatable.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Cory Favre is a visual artist living and working in Minnesota. She has a BGS from Ball State University with focuses in Studio Art and Interior Design and is an alumni of The Women’s Art Institute Studio Intensive in 2019.

She has served on the Board of Directors for The Women’s Art Resources of Minnesota, has been a long time member of the Northeast Minneapolis Artists Association and North Suburban Center for the Arts. She has exhibited work both locally and regionally and has been the recipient of two Minnesota State Arts Board Grants - an Artist Initiative Grant in 2020 for her White Knuckled Project and a Creative Support Grant in 2022 for her current work on motherhood.

Cory primarily works in drawing and painting (oils), but has recently been experimenting with felt and embroidery in her work. Inspired by social issues and politics, particularly those issues facing women, she explores uncomfortable themes through bright, vibrant and fun imagery to draw the viewer into the conversation. Creating work this way makes these topics approachable and gives people a safe place to explore and think on their own experiences.
