The Square Underfoot

The Square Underfoot

Solo exhibition by Jin-Da Lin, Taiwan

FOGSTAND is happy to present Jin-Da Lin’s first solo exhibition in the USA, The square underfoot, a trilogy of short films produced over the last eight years (with the most recent being exhibited for the first time).

Jin-Da Lin strives to observe, detect and record experience as characteristic. Three short films that gauge and convey—at times literal, at times poetic, at times procedural—the feeling of being compressed under a square foot of space. Something to do with, to discuss over or to redefine any boundaries, textures and/or lengths of freedom.

A series of early Taiwanese films, some which have only been recently restored by the M.O.C. (Ministry of Culture, Taiwan) and the Taiwan Film Institute.

The particular selection of films have little curatorial connection to the coinciding solo exhibition, The square underfoot, by Jin-Da Lin but, instead, were prompted by FOGSTAND's own curiosity to explore Taiwanese cinema they themselves have not seen. Ranging from a cult fantasy film with people adorning deer costumes to an appropriated gothic romance, the films on display are sure to be special.
