Porcelain work explores questions of identity and shared values in Chinese and American culture and the emotive power of domestic objects

Artist Talk and Nail Salon with Jennifer Ling Datchuk
Apr 17th, 6:30-8:30PM

Jennifer Ling Datchuk will discuss the ways that hair and nail salons are sites for conversations, learning, and camaraderie when dealing with issues of gender, identity, and power in her work. During these times of self-care, everyone needs some “money honey” nails to carry the affirmations and conversations of the salon into everyday life.

After this talk, give yourself permission to be pampered by Little Luxuries Nail Lounge and get some custom nail decals in blue and white with patterns of the Venus of Willendorf, peaches, uteruses, and more – because girl, you can.

The Political Hand Exhibition: Jennifer Lynn Datchuk

Porcelain work explores questions of identity and shared values in Chinese and American culture and the emotive power of domestic objects San Antonio-based artist and ceramist (and 2017 ACC Emerging Artist) Jennifer Ling Datchuk has always felt like she has been caught between two worlds and never fully part of either one. Navigating her heritage as a Chinese Caucasian American, she is constantly answering the question, “what are you?” This exhibition of Datchuk’s porcelain work explores questions of identity and shared values in Chinese and American culture and the emotive power of domestic objects.
