Super Furs for the Super Futures 77: Beavereavement

Opening April 24, 2021 in the Mardag Gallery at Franconia Commons, the exhibition begins with an historic group of 76 beavers who were parachuted by Idaho Fish and Game in 1948 to relocate them to remote areas. Using the special beaver box attached to the parachute to comment on the beaver’s entanglement with settler colonialism and manifest destiny—as well as beavers’ contemporary persistence in the imagination as nuisance, eco-savior, and unknowable sovereign—Super Furs for the Super Futures 77: Beavereavement is the second in a series of works by SFHQ exploring the beaver and themes of love, loss, ancestors, displacement and fantasy.

The exhibition opens at Franconia Commons on Saturday, April 24, 2021 with a public reception from 4pm-6pm. Super Furs for the Super Futures 77: Beavereavement will run until June 30, 2021.

About the Artists
Super Futures Haunt Qollective (SFHQ) is an art and research based collaboration between three avatars: SFAOW (Specularity: Fugitive-Alterity Or Whatever), Agent O, and Lady HOW (Haunting or Whatever). In their terrestrial forms, SFHQ members F. Sam Jung (MCP, Massachusetts Institute of Technology) is a sky person and urban planner in New York, and C. Ree (MFA University of California, Irvine) is an artist and film programmer based in California, and has only once been visited by Our Lady. Angie Morrill (Klamath Tribes) holds a Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies from University of California, San Diego and is a shut-in cat lady who paints pictures for money. She is also the director of the Indian Education Program for the Portland School District.
