Seitu Jones in Conversation With Douglas Kearney

Seitu Jones is a multi-disciplinary artist and community organizer known for his large-scale public artworks and environmental design. Working both independently and in collaboration with other artists, Jones has created over forty large-scale public art works. For his online artist talk with the Weisman, Jones will discuss his latest site-specific installation at the University of Minnesota, Pillsbury Hall in conversation with University of Minnesota faculty member and award-winning poet, Douglas Kearney.

PRESENTERS
SEITU KEN JONES is a multidisciplinary artist, advocate and maker based in St. Paul, Minnesota. Working between the arts and public spheres, Jones channels the spirit of radical social movements into experiences that foster critical conversations and nurture more just and vibrant communities from the soil up. He is recognized as a dynamic collaborator and a creative force for civic engagement.

DOUGLAS KEARNEY has published seven books, including Sho (Wave Books, 2021) of which Ken Chen (NPR) writes “Kearney’s prosody is miraculous”; the award-winning poetry collection Buck Studies (Fence Books, 2016); libretti, Someone Took They Tongues. (Subito, 2016); and criticism, Mess and Mess and (Noemi Press, 2015).) WIRE magazine calls Fodder, a live album featuring Kearney and frequent collaborator, Val Inc., “Brilliant.” A Whiting Writer’s and Foundation for Contemporary Arts Cy Twombly awardee with residencies/fellowships from Cave Canem, The Rauschenberg Foundation, and others. Kearney is a McKnight Presidential Fellow and associate professor of Creative Writing/English at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities.
