Quilt, Not Quilt: The Afterlife

Quilt, Not Quilt: The Afterlife

New Exhibition at Minnesota Center for Book Arts Explores the Storytelling Power of Quilts

Quilt, Not Quilt: The Afterlife features twelve artists who have repurposed tattered quilts into new forms such as paper, poetry, and broadsides.

The participating artists contemplated connections to the original quilts and their makers, focusing on craftsmanship and labor, scarcity and plenty, and stories that can be recalled and stories never to be recovered. Responding to questions of social, cultural, and economic history, the resulting exhibition culminates in diverse and unexpected transformations of material, story, and form.

The opening reception will include an artist talk, poetry reading, and special viewing of selected works in the Target Performance Hall from 7-8pm. There will also be opportunities to speak with the artists and poets throughout the night. Both the exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
